Histori
Dr. Robert W. Hutson (1920-2001), a California periodontologist, designed and patented a toothbrush in 1950. Applications for his "Hutson toothbrush" were filed on January 13, 1950, and US Pat. 160,604 was given in October 24 the same year. In 1958, he was granted a new patent for "toothbrush" which had many fine, soft, flat end feathers and appearance similar to the 1950 design. He claimed in his application that the brush was less abrasive to the enamel, better to massage the gums, and more effectively in taking the tooth powder than any other brush available at the time, which has coarse, angled atoms.
He also created the Oral-B brand name. The first product is known as "Oral-B 60", because it has 60 tassels. Other sizes are made with different tassels and corresponding names. Dr. Hutson sold his toothbrush business in the 1960s, and continued his periodontal practice in San Jose.
Oral-B became part of the Gillette group in 1984. Braun, also part of the Gillette group at the time, began using the Oral-B brand for electric toothbrushes. Oral-B has been part of Procter & amp; Company Gamble since 2006. Company representatives have stated that "B" in Oral-B means "brush".
In 2013, Shakira was selected as a brand ambassador and spokesperson for a white 3D property.
