United States Mint Proof Set

This collection includes every coin design produced by the United States Mint in one year. This is the longest coin series produced by Mint and consists of coins prepared using striking evidence methods. Coin Mint packages specially prepared in hard plastic cases are intended for long-term preservation.

All releases from 1936 to 1972 included cents, nickel, a dime, a quarter, and a half dollar of that year. The first evidence in 1964 was printed in Philadelphia Mint. There were two official releases in 1942: a set of five regular coins and one set including nickel silver in wartime. The United States currency was lowered starting in 1965, but the set continued under the name of the United States Mint Proof Set.Production was transferred to the San Francisco branch in 1968, and all subsequent issues bear coins with the "S" mint sign. In 1973, the Eisenhower dollar was added to the collection. The set of 1975 will have a double quarter of 1776-1976, a half dollar, and a dollar because no coins were ever produced by 1975. Dollar Susan B. Anthony replaced Eisenhower in 1979. The 1981 mint set is the only method to get Susan B from that year, although many entered the circulation. With a stop in dollar coin printing, the usual Proof Set problem for 1982 includes a brass token. From 1983 to 1998, the annual United States Evidence set returned only to pay a dime, nickel, a dime, a quarter, and a half dollar.

With the introduction of the 50 State Quarters program in 1999, Mint began issuing all five quarters released from that year in an established denomination, thus creating nine sets of coins divided by two holders, or lenses. Single lenses containing only quarters are also sold separately. The following year, Sacagawea's dollars were put into regular sets, bringing the number of coins to ten. The Journey Series Westward Journey saw the introduction of eleven sets of coins in 2004 and 2005 featuring both pennies, cents, a penny, a half dollar, a gold dollar and all five quarters. Regular issues returned to ten coins in 2006, but the Presidential Dollar Coins Program requires the expansion of three lenses with a total of fourteen coins from 2007 to 2008. In 2009, other lenses were added to facilitate the money being printed for the Lincoln Bicentennial collection.. The money generated for that year's proof sets is special because their compositions look back to the 95% copper alloy that was used when the Lincoln cent was first introduced. This set peaked the number of coins in eighteen as it also included a year-old set of District of Columbia and United States Territories Quarters. The regular release returns to a count of fourteen coins in three lenses by 2010 and the individual lenses of America the Beautiful Quarters or Presidential Dollar Coins are sold separately.
