FCA Canada Inc. , formerly Chrysler Canada , is a wholly owned subsidiary of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles AS operating in Canada. Established in 1925, the Chrysler Corporation of Canada gained complete control of the Maxwell-Chalmers plant in Windsor, Ontario that has been used to produce several Chrysler models in the previous year. Originally named Chrysler Canada, Ltd., the company's name changed to DaimlerChrysler Canada Inc. after merging the two holding companies. In August 2007, the company was renamed Chrysler Canada Incorporated when Cerberus Capital Management bought 80.1% of its parent company, Chrysler LLC.

Chrysler Canada has three factories operating in Canada, and built 535,878 cars and trucks in 2002. In 2007, the company sold 232,688 vehicles in the Canadian market. In 2012, Chrysler Canada sales reached 243.845, up 6% over 2011; this puts the company into the # 2 sales slot for Canada.

Histori

Chrysler Canada was founded in mid-June 1925, with 181 employees. 7,857 vehicles were produced in the first year.

"Plodge"

Plodge , portmanteau of the name Pl ymouth and D odge , is a name that is informally used to refer to vehicles made by Chrysler Canada with a combination of US Plymouth and Dodge parts for Canadian market and export. This practice allows dealers in Canada to offer more vehicles at lower development costs in the relatively small Canadian market. For example, Plymouth with Dodge's grating and taillights became Dodge without sacrificing vehicle tools for the market. At Dodge Dart introduced in 1960, only the interior is divided; The Canadian Market 1960-61 Dart has a Plymouth dash. 1965 to 1966 Dodge Monaco uses Dodge body, with Plymouth Fury dashboard and interior trim. Not all vehicles built in the Chrysler market in Canada are designed in this way; The DeSoto Diplomat, for example - the rejuvenated Dodge Dart - was never sold in Canada, where DeSotos is similar to the US model. The DeSoto 1960 officer in Canada looks like DeSoto 1960 America but uses upholstery and door panels from Chrysler Saratoga 1960.

The Valiant is sold by Dodge and Plymouth dealers as a separate make, as has been the original plan in the United States. 1960 to 1962 The Canadian Valiant is substantially similar to the American model, with little trim and mechanical equipment differences. 1963-64 Valiant Canada has a US Valiant front sheetmetal on Darts U.S. 1965 Canadian Valiants are available in a variety of sizes and models offered throughout the American Valiant and Dart models, but all Canadian market cars use the Dart instrument cluster and are given a "Valiant" badge. For 1966, Valiant Barracuda was the only offer in Canada at Vimple Valiant's 106 in a wheelbase (269.2 cm), without a Valiant station wagon in Canada for 1966.

"Moving" vehicles include:

  • DeSoto Diplomat: Dodge Dart body, DeSoto trim-like side
  • Dodge Kingsway: Dodge body, Plymouth fender, and cut
  • Dodge Mayfair: Dodge clip front, Plymouth body
  • Dodge Regent: Dodge clip front, Plymouth body
  • Dodge Crusader: Dodge Front Clip (grille minus six "gear") Plymouth body
  • Dodge Viscount: Dodge front clip, Plymouth body
  • Dodge Monaco 1965-1966: Using the Plymouth Fury dash 1965-1966
  • Valiant 1960-1966: mixed sections vary by model year
  • Dodge Dart 1960-1961: Plymouth instrument panel

After the Canada-United States Automotive Products Agreement (the "Auto Pact") took a practical effect in 1967, almost no differences existed between US and Canadian Chrysler products. However, until the early 2000s the distribution of models within and between marques was sometimes different in Canada than in the US. Dodge and Plymouth Neon are sold in Canada as Chrysler Neon; The Dodge and Intrepid dynasties were also dubbed and sold as Chrysler models in Canada. In 2003, this practice was discontinued and the marque as well as the range of US and Canadian models were fully aligned.

Historically, Chrysler Canada sold vehicles under Dodge, Plymouth, Chrysler, DeSoto, Valiant, and Imperial marques. There are currently four marques: Dodge, Ram, Jeep, and Chrysler. Dodge is a mainline car and van, the Jeep is the main line of SUVs, Chrysler is a premium line, and Ram is a variety of trucks and trucks based on SUVs.
