Dopp Package

Dopp kit is a term that is primarily used in the US for toiletry bags. The name comes from early 20th century leather artisan Charles Doppelt, whose company designed the case in 1926.

Dopp kits became widely known during World War I and World War II when they were issued to GI. The Dopp brand name was purchased by Samsonite in the early 1970s, and was acquired by Buxton in 1979.

The trademark Dopp was filed by Samsonite for registration at the US Trademark Office on March 24, 1980. The applicable classes are "empty toilet cases, office bags, portcase type, case samples and catalogs sold empty, baggage identification, and travel bag ". Additional archiving for the Dopp Kit trademark was created on April 3, 1980 for the class of "travel supplies, sold empty". In both applications Samsonite stated that the trademark was first used in July 1936. The registration for "Dopp Kit" was canceled in March 2003 when no one submitted the necessary Advanced Usage Declaration (Section 8), but the required declaration had been submitted for " Dopp ". Signs were assigned to DHP Limited Partnership (dba Buxton) in 1990; the trademark owner "Dopp" is currently listed as Buxton Acquisition Co., LLC, from Chicopee, Massachusetts.
