A review of the system ( ROS ), also called system investigation or system review , is a technique used by health care providers to obtain a medical history from a patient. It is often conceived as a component of the admissions record that includes the organ system, focusing on the subjective symptoms felt by the patient (as opposed to the objective marks felt by the physician). Along with physical examination, this can be very useful in identifying conditions that do not have the proper diagnostic tests.

Whichever system of certain conditions may seem limited, it may make sense to review all other systems in a comprehensive history. Different sources describe a slightly different system in regulating organ systems. However, the following is an example of what can be included:

For CMS, a "related" ROS problem is limited to issues identified in HPI; ROS "extended" includes an additional 2 to 9 systems, and a "complete" ROS includes at least 10 additional systems.
