Economy

Want is the eastern UP industrial city. After the collapse of the textile industry Banares and Mubarakpur, Mau stands as one of the last bastions of UP textile hubs. A 1998-99 survey of the Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) placed a number of powerlooms at 58,381.

There is speculation that this great industry will benefit if GIs are given to Mau as well as if groups (powerlooms, resembling modern industries) are encouraged.
