Nickname and behavior in court
Roddick is often called "A-Rod", a drama with the nickname of New York Yankees baseball star Alex Rodriguez, referring to his first initials and the first three letters of his last name.
Roddick often angered the referee and the linesman in court. During his third round match at the Australian Open in 2008, he abused referee Emmanuel Joseph, "You idiot! Stay at school, kids or you will be a referee."
Roddick lost his temper at the 2010 Australian Open after the ball, which he did not play on the match point, but decided to enter after a video review. He continues to argue with the referee after the end of the game but then says that he was wrong. Then again that year, he launched into a scolding at officials for the footfalls call at the 2010 US Open, a match he eventually lost to Serbia's Janko Tipsarevi. In 2011, Roddick snapped the referee's seat at Indian Wells en route to losing to France's Richard Gasquet.
In the second round match against Philipp Kohlschreiber at the Cincinnati Masters 2011, Roddick was awarded the penalty spot, which resulted in a critical service break in favor of his opponent. The penalty spot was awarded for misuse of the ball, when Roddick smashed the ball into the stands in frustration after he had been alerted earlier in the match by referee Carlos Bernardes for an episode of racquet abuse. This sparked another series of fights with the referee, with Roddick expressing his displeasure at referee calls. Roddick lost the match. At China Open 2011 in Beijing, Andy Roddick was asked by the Chinese press about his potential retirement, given his downgrade. Roddick recommends retiring reporters and leaving the session abruptly.
Roddick, however, is also known for his amusing behavior in court and an out-of-court intelligent answer in interviews and press conferences. He and Novak Djokovic are mainly known for their imitation of Maria Sharapova, Rafael Nadal, Lleyton Hewitt and each other. Roddick is trained by Jimmy Connors, who is also known for his flamboyant personality during his playing career, for two years.
Tools and support
Roddick uses a Pure Babolat Drive version that is stopped, extended to 27.5 inches. The racket itself is highly adapted to the extra weight placed in the head through the use of tin tape. The resulting rack shows a more weight weight balance point and higher swing weight than the higher overall weight share model, although this is similar to the model that it supports around 12 oz. This kind of modification is common for professional players.
Roddick uses a modified version of Babolat's Pure Drive Roddick GT. The cortex is specifically seen painting onto a racket. The signature racket designed for him by Babolat is slightly heavier (11.9 oz), more rigid (Babolat RDC index 72), and longer (27.5 ") than the standard Pure Drive Series (11.3 oz, Babolat RDC 71 , 27 "). This racket is designed for strong service because of its weight, stiffness, and length. According to the Tennis Warehouse, it is the best for this fundamental stroke. He strings with a custom hybrid (Pro Hurricane Tour VS Touch (Natural Gut)). Roddick previously used Babolat RPM Blast and Babolat Revenge (used only for short periods) as its parent. Roddick's tension varies, he used to string around £ 65, but now he strings around 55-57 pounds depending on conditions and weather.
Roddick also uses tennis shoes Babolat Propulse III, which is a typical equipment. From 2000 to 2005, Roddick wore Reebok outfits. After Reebok announced he would not renew his contract with Roddick, Roddick signed a five-year, $ 25 million support contract with Lacoste in April 2005. In November, he signed an agreement to approve Lacoste's glasses for four years worth between $ 750,000 and $ 1 million. In June 2013, Roddick became an investor and brand ambassador for TravisMathew Clothing. Roddick, as well as former American tennis star James Blake and Mardy Fish, wore headbands, TravisMathew's T-shirts and shorts during the game.

Play style
Roddick's service is known for its strength, typically running around 130-150 mph (209 ~ 242 km/h) and often non-refundable. He holds the record for the fastest service period at 155 mph (249.4 km/h). Roddick's favorite shot is his off-forehand, which he uses in combination with his outside kicker. In the past, Roddick often played his off-forehand but has since adjusted and used it to make points. He usually targets two corners to win the ace. As for the second serve, he usually uses a heavy kick service, then tries to use various rounds, slices, and angles in the rally to throw his opponent away. He was noted for using heavy topspin on his serve and his twist service was kicking high.
Roddick will also occasionally use serve-and-volley tactics on both first and second services to surprise his opponent, though he usually prefers to stay near the bottom line after service. He has developed a more sophisticated playing style than the aggressive baseline style he played for most of his early career. Although Roddick's backhand is still a weakness at the moment, it is considered somewhat improved in 2009 under Stefanki's guidance.
